Projects of the initiative StadtBauKultur NRW 2008/2009

This is the fourth swatch book of the initiative StadtBauKultur in North Rhine-Westphalia. It provides you with insights into the projects and activities. You will see, the projects of the initiative all are a bit of Baukultur itself.
I would like to thank all those who contribute actively: the Chamber of architects, the Chamber of engineers, the German Association of Cities, the Association of Chambers of Industry and Commerce, the associations of the construction and housing industry and the artists’ associations of North Rhine-Westphalia and many private individuals.

Today, nobody is explicitly against Baukultur. This would be difficult to justify as well. But it often seems to cause problems when things start to take shape, when building and planning are to be carried out quickly. The Landesinitiative StadtBauKultur NRW wants to ensure that these cases do not become the norm. And it is doing this with increasing success.

Oliver Wittke, Minister of Building and Transport of the Land North Rhine-Westphalia

The projects of the Initiative StadtBauKultur NRW
StadtBauKultur NRW lives through its partners in North Rhine-Westphalia and their numerous ideas and projects. Up to now, over 100 projects have been realised since the start of the 10-year initiative in the year 2001. Symposia, competitions, workshops, guided tours, publications, and projects specially for children and young people as well. Many of the activities will be continued in the next few years, new projects are being added continuously and some supplement the programme of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010.

We focus on the dialogue with the residents of our towns and cities.
The initiative StadtBauKultur NRW engages itself for
• likable and liveable towns and cities,
• more quality in the public space and
• a more appreciative handling of our historical inheritance.

The threads of the initiative StadtBauKultur NRW come together in the Europäisches Haus der Stadtkultur. The many projects are bundled here, ideas developed and realised in cooperation with the project partners. The here-developed campaigns contribute to sensitising the public for the built environment and to winning the population for the concerns of Baukultur.
