Baukultur
online
Networking with ICQ, Twitter or Facebook, googling, shopping on Ebay, and communicating by email – 20 years ago no one would have thought it possible that our daily lives would be shaped to such an extent by the internet. Information on the architectural highlights of North Rhine-Westphalian cities which can be found on www.baukunst.nrw.de can also be accessed via mobile phones and smartphones wherever the user happens to be. Alternatively, the internet can be used to communicate contents to a broad target group, as demonstrated by the online architectural debates of the M:AI Museum für Architektur und Ingenieurkunst NRW. The use of new media creates a new dimension for experiencing baukultur irrespective of place and time.
“North Rhine-Westphalia has countless buildings and structures in which great feats of engineering have been realised. They are often hidden, and only recognisable at second glance. The internet is a new forum for presenting and understanding the great achievements of engineers. This creates transparency on all levels of communication and provides a new way of experiencing the art of civil engineering.“ Dr.-Ing. Heinrich Bökamp, President of the Chamber of engineers of North Rhine-Westphalia
