Experiencing baukultur

Urban development is a time consuming process and therefore often difficult to follow. With temporary special events such as the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 it is possible to utilise this time in a stimulating way. Baukultur becomes an experiment and enables participants to experience it directly. Projects developed from within the daily lives of the residents of the region such as B1|A40 – Die Schönheit der großen Straße or Route der Wohnkultur open opportunities to answer the question „how do we want to live in our cities in the future?“. Such projects nurture the direct encounter with baukultur. To avoid a „festivalisation of urban development“ such events also contain the demand for permanent structures.
